Race and Ethnicity Update-April 2002

Race and Ethnicity Update-April 2002

To better reflect the growing diversity in our country, the 2000 Census changed how people could report their race. For the first time, people could report if they were a member of more than one racial category.

Hispanic origin refers to ethnicity, a distinct concept from race, and thus is counted separately.
