Income & Earnings 2004 Update
The official system of classifying industries and economic sectors has changed. The old system of 10 sectors (known as SIC or the Standard Industrial Classification system) has been replaced with the North American Industry Classification System (called NAICS for short which rhymes with “snakes”) and now has 20 sectors.
The good news is that the new NAICS system better reflects our changing economy. The bad news is that, for counties, an increased number of categories means more undisclosed data.
This issue of “Kentucky: By the Numbers” provides county employment data available using the new NAICS system. For more information on the new system, go to the NAICS website at: http://www.census.gov/epcd/www/naics.html.
