2012 Census of Agriculture

In Kentucky, farming and agriculture ranges from the large scale irrigated cash grains operations of the western region, to the horse and general farm enterprises of central Kentucky, to small scale farming in eastern counties.

The Census of Agriculture counts “any place from which $1,000 or more of agricultural products were produced and sold, or normally would have been sold, during the census year.”

The USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) conducts the Census of Agriculture every 5 years (in years that end with a “2” or a “7”).
